About Northern Lights Internet Solutions Ltd.
The company was founded in 1994 by four programmers and two library/information professionals. Northern Lights was the first company dedicated to offering web services in Saskatchewan. For 10 years (1994-2004) the company offering a broad ranged of web development, design, usability and consulting services. The company expanded rapidly during the dot com years. Due to family commitments, the company was downsized in 2004 and focused on publishing web directory sites and some consulting and usability projects.
Peter Scott (1947-2013) was one of the company founders and is well known as a Internet pioneer along with another founder, Earl Fogel, for his ground breaking work creating the first Internet directory tool, Hytelnet. Peter continued publishing directories after Hytelnet such as the library public OPACs directory (later renamed Libdex), Publishers' Catalogues Home Pages and allrecordlabels.com.
In 1996 Darlene Fichter became the sole owner of the company. Darlene is also a Librarian at the University of Saskatchewan Library. In 2002, she was named as one of the top 50 librarians in the Library Journal's first list of Movers & Shakers: The People Who Are Shaping the Future of Libraries. Darlene speaks about new and emerging technologies atconferences in the USA, Canada and internationally. She is passionate about usability and user experience. She is also a writer and columnist for Online Searcher magazine.
